Bring Your Own Technology

Edited by Jeremy Suffel, Wednesday, 4 May 2011, 10:06 AM

Bring your own technology (BYOT) is a growing concept and practice within school districts in order to reduce costs to the district and improve the overall student experience. BYOT leverages the use of student owned devices that are typically newer and perform better than district owned computers to provide more technology to more users at the same time. Montpelier Schools plans to start integrating BYOT into the district at the start of the 2011-2012 school year. Through cloud based applications like Moodle and Live@Edu users will have greater access to curriculum, documents, collaboration, and applications than ever before. If you have questions, concerns, or suggestions please feel free to share them by commenting below.

Thanks,
Montpelier Schools Technology Department

Please keep the following in mind when posting to a forum or a blog:
  • Rule #1 and Most Important Rule: Use your Common Sense. Don’t forget, everything you write may be on display for the world to see. If you don’t want to the world knowing something, don’t post it. Posting inappropriate, slanderous remarks, or copyright material may result in legal consequences.
  • Give credit where credit is due. Be familiar with copyright and creative commons. You don't have to ask permission to link to someone, but you do have to have permission to use a person's photograph or content.
  • Be Polite. Do not make personal attacks. If you disagree with someone, own up to it by linking your name. Otherwise don't comment. Leaving an anonymous comment is a "cowardly" and inappropriate thing to do.
  • Make your blog easy to read. Use proper English, correct spelling, and correct grammar. Be sure to use complete sentences.
  • Check your facts. Posting incorrect information, at best, makes you look like an amateur. At worst, if you are posting wrong information about a person, it can be a libelous offense.
  • When commenting on other people's blogs, contribute to the conversation. Comments like "me too" or "I agree" just to be noticed is rude and do not contribute to the conversation.
